Pavey Pounding The Track In Testing PDF Print E-mail

ANDRA Championship racer (and club member) Russell Pavey has commenced testing his new combination in the Big Dog Garage – LOWE Fuel Systems, Electric Orange '63 Corvette Top Doorslmamer. Russell has recorded a blog so ANDRA drag racing fans can see the progress of the Big Dog Machine.

Day 1 - Two passes.
First pass, to the top of first gear to check the clutch and suspension.
Second pass to the top of second gear to confirm data from first pass.

Day 2 - Two passes (3 and 4)
Third pass plan is to take it to 1000 foot. The car was staged slightly out of the groove (wont happen again) and only stayed on the throttle for .22 of a second before everything went ugly. Russell did a terrific job, quickly getting off the throttle and caused no damage to anything except pride.

Fourth pass is to do what we wanted to do on the third pass. Now with the car staged correctly Russell launches the car with the front wheels 2-3” off the ground and has a little wiggle at the 330 and goes straight as a stretched string to 190 mph at the 660 then following the plan, clicking it off just at the 1000 foot, in doing so it bumped the rev limiter which had been set very conservable for this test session and Russell rolls off the throttle and coasts across the stripe for a 6.16-secind ET at only 205 mph.

All weekend the team made no changes to the chassis or the clutch other than resetting back to zero although they did adjust the wheelie bars. The fuel system is as it came off the LOWE Fuel Systems bench, with not even a nozzle change.

Russell would like to thank his crew of John Widgery, Gary Dobson, Craig Barber and Marco Van Der Veen the team is looking forward to our first full pass and getting to a race so they can get in and kick and scratch with the best Top Doorslammer teams in the world.
