Meeting will be held at the usual address as Ryan from Racers Industry is in Germany so we will try to get a look at there warehouse another time. Warwick Drag fest was held on the 13-14th of October we had 7 cars & 1 JD head out for the week end. Dale’s daughter race the JD for the first time ever. Ian’s WB Ute and Barts LJ Torana raced in super street, Super sedan had Darren’s mk2 Cortina, Mark’s XE Falcon and Christine in the HZ Holden. Super Charged outlaws had Robert in his HQ and Bradley in the Gemini. This is a great turn out by the club not to mention the people out of the club that came just to watch or help out. The trip started of well for Mark & Darren who’s car’s where being towed by Michael. Darren’s car was in Michael’s new trailer that he recently purchased ( a caravan converted to a trailer) The trailer needed a few repairs the front sheeting was replaced and a new draw bar the night before. Any way off we went we made it as far as Red bank when we blow a tyre on the caravan it peeled the tread off the tyre, so we replaced it with the dirty old spare that was rusty etc. So of we went we decided to go in to Ipswich to get another tyre for a spare but we didn’t make it that far when all the wheel nuts left the hub and the wheel came off in the middle of a main road as we walk up to the trailer to see the damage we heard a bang the tyre exploded and split the rim in half. The wheel nut pulled through the rim (rusty). So we pull the wheel back out that had no tread but still had air in it and crawled in to Ipswich at 20kph for 5-10km a lot of happy passed us. We sat on the side of the main road and changed the hub and got another tyre. Back on our way we finely made it to Warwick only 4 hours later (2 1/2 hour trip). Bart towed his LJ Torana up to Warwick but Bart couldn’t find the track even after reading the map a couple of time. Bart pulled over to the side of the road to discover that he had the map up side down and heading the wrong way but that was the best part Bart had pulled over in a sink hole and now was bogged up to the diff with no way out, lucky for Bart a 4wd came along and pulled him out.
We set up and walked around to see who was here . Mark unloaded his car to find out that one of his slicks had canvas come out in one spot so he was ready to pull the pin when it was suggested that he ask around to see if any one had any spares so he did. And after looking through piles of slicks he found a set. So of he went to find a tyre shop opened on a Saturday arvo 5 shops later nothing opened. Got back to the track Darren said do it by hand so of we set to pull them off using the Michaels tilt tray as a bead breaker and Darren showed us how to change a tyre with a screw driver and a jimmy bar and his wife’s shampoo with water. It worked a treat Mark was on the track and had a couple of runs in qualifying. John (chop) done a licence pass in Robert’s HQ, John has never raced before and to go straight in to a blown car will wake him up. John went into the burn out with nothing but full throttle, the HQ small block screamed as it bounced of the limiter Robert’s face priceless. John staged the car and then he shot off the car moved to the wall so he had to get out of the run , After that pass I never seen john in the car again maybe Robert liked the motor the way it was. When racing had stopped for the night we walk around to talking to people when we came across Robert and he was tell us that when he pulled up at the track he noticed his trailer was leaning to one side and when he looked under the trailer he see that the leaf spring had broken in half (all of them). So they went into town to see what they could find. They came back with some metal brackets that they used to pull the springs together with witch looked like it might work but the trailer was not loaded and going down the range that will be the real test. Saturday night the band played to the early hours of the morning the beer flowed and the Holden v Ford also began along night. Ian how cold was it he slept on the car trailer on a single figure night. Sundays racing started at 10.30am it was a hot day and the bloody flies were out. Every one had to do three passes (round robin) and they worked out who win after that. We don't have everyone's results so we will let you know at the meeting. The trip home only had a little drama with Michael's truck blow the fuse for the tail lights so that meant some one had to stay behind him. Robert made it down the range with the broken spring and using the brakes of the f-150 truck only as he had to disconnect the trailer brakes so they didn’t pull on the springs. Yes Bart found his way home. Bracket series on the 27th of October seen another great turn out with Ian Neilson, Bart Bedanrossie and Dale Nagel racing in super street. Darren Booth was the only super sedan driver to race. Ricky also raced, he was in the funny car doing his licensing pass. Ricky had about 3 passes all seem to go to the wall or to the other lane so not sure if they passed them but it looked good seeing it going down the track. There where 2 other funny cars testing that night as well so it was a great night to watch. Hope to see them more and more as the numbers are getting bigger. |
