Well we thought the first New Years meeting at Willowbank was good,
how about the second one.
Well WSID had the Summer Nationals on the weekend after our last
club meeting and true to form the NSW rainy weather set in and put a
stop to the meeting after first round of qualifying. John Cannuli, Jimmy
and Jason and their crews went down to the event. John sat the first
round out and Jason had the Prob in the field after his qualifying. I
spoke with Jimmy on the weekend and they are very happy with the car
and will be looking to creep up on the tune up at the next meeting.
The next meeting Nostalgia drags at Willowbank and with the weather
hanging around their were a few eyes on the sky. The meeting went
ahead and from all reports there was a great day of racing with some
small showers during the day and the Willowbank clean up crew
worked to keep things rolling as they do.
We had two club members race at the meeting Paul Gomez and Dave
Middleton. Paul had the Mini on fire running a personal best and also
coming runner up in his class. From all reports the thing lived up to its
wild performances and turning many heads. Dave also had a great day
running consistent numbers. I was speaking with the crew chief (Marco)
and he had praise for Dave as the data logger and electrics didn’t work
on the day so Dave just drove it like he stole it. Well done two both drivers.
The next outing was the Western Nationals with quite a few members making the trek
over to WA to contest the event.
SUPER STREET was the one to watch as Big Trev Davis took the orange Jaffa Cortina
and kicked butt. I was talking with Trev at the last meeting and he told me they were
sending the car over and he was looking forward to the trip. Hopefully he will be at the
next meeting and can give us a run down on the weekend.
SUPERCHARGED OUTLAWS Christine took the dragster over and according to the crew
chief the car run well during qualifying and ended up in fifth spot, however driver error in
round one had the dragster on the trailer. With this on the crew chiefs mind it was of to
the rum bottle and rumour has it that he went under the line (not good).
MODIFIED BIKE the winner of the event was Andy Roberts and Andy is the quiet bloke
who stands up the back at the meetings. I am sure he will give us a full rap up of how he
went on the way to the winners circle. Also at the event was Malcolm and Wayne they
both qualified well however Wayne went out in round two and Malcolm round 3
(apparently some problem with the bottle) not the same as Ricky’s
After a few years off ,the mystery bus trip is back as some of you will know the bus trip is
an easy fund raiser for the club. We try to provide a night of fun, dancing , food and
drinks.
We arrange a bus with free drinks, music , raffles and prizes to take us to unknown destinations
where light snacks are provided. At these points you have free time to dance,
play pokies, drink (you pay for them) or just watch what’s going on around you or just stay
on the bus.
The available DATE for the bus trip is Saturday 29th MAY. This will depend on numbers,
the last bus trip was $50.00 per head including the above. The more people, the more
money will be raised. The cost of the bus hire has gone up and we will need to review the
costs of the night at the next meeting ($65.00?). Its just like adding a few extra dollars to
the club but having some fun along the way. So have a think about it and if you, your family
and friends might like to come along there will be a book at the meeting to try and get
an idea of who may be interested.
.
Just the other night I was lucky enough to be at a party with some members of the club
and the interest in SUPER SEDAN is hotting up. We have a few hot shot super sedan
drivers in the club and one in retirement an they have put the gloves on. After a few hours
the bets were laid and the times were recorded. We may see the blue HZ out of retirement
as he thinks its like taking candy from the candy shop but all three were very confident.
If any other driver/rider would like to throw their hat in, the barman and I will be running
the book.
The barman has been in discussion with the founders of SPDRA Pirates Cove Amateur
Fishing Club re a membership drive. To discuss this further, please speak with John, Ian
or Dale as to their future events.
